What class of fires does HFP target?

HFP, or High-Pressure Carbon Dioxide fire suppression system, is designed primarily to target Class B fires. Class B fires involve flammable liquids and gases, making them distinct from other classes of fires such as solids or metals. The suppression mechanism of HFP is effective in displacing oxygen and cooling the fuel, which prevents combustion and puts out the fire.

Using HFP on Class B fires is advantageous because it can quickly suppress large volumes of flammable materials and does not leave residue, which is important in environments like data centers and industrial areas. This system is not suitable for Class A fires as those involve ordinary combustibles, nor is it effective on Class C fires involving electrical equipment, or Class D fires, which involve metals such as magnesium or sodium. Each class of fire requires different suppression techniques, making HFP specifically effective for Class B situations.
